To run a traceroute using Windows (Mac users see below): click start click run type in: command this will open a dos prompt window. Then type in: tracert YOUR-DOMAIN.com (replace YOUR-DOMAIN.com with your actual domain name) Then hit enter When it's done, click the dotted box button on the far left of the top of the window, and then you can select the text with a mouse, and copy (control+c) and paste it (control+v) into an email or a support desk ticket. (You may also be able to right click to select all and copy) ================ For Mac users: Go to your Applications folder, then to the Utilities folder. Open the program named Terminal, and type in: traceroute your-domain.com (then hit enter) When it's done running, you can select the text with a mouse, copy (command+c), and paste (Command+v) the text into an email or a support desk ticket.

I want to have another domain name pointed to my existing website, how do I park a domain name?

The first step is to register the new domain name. You can do that by going here:

To park a new domain name to your existing site, there is a one-time-only $15 charge for each parked domain that you have, unless your account already has some parks unlocked (the Value package doesn't come with any, but all other hosting packages come with at least 5). You can have as many parked domains as you like.

- make sure that you put in your CURRENTLY hosted site -ex: yourcurrentsite.com in the field when you place the order.

After you place that order, you'll receive an email letting you know when the order has been processed and your control panel is unlocked.
You can then login to your control panel, click on "Applications" on the menu on the left, and then on "park domain" at the top of the page, and park a domain name there.
At the bottom of that same page, are the controls to allow you to park the domain name to a subdirectory, along with directions on how to do it if you want to do that.

It generally takes about 4 to 6 hours for the setup of the park. When it is ready you will be able to go to your control panel

and click APPLICATIONS on the left menu. On the next screen you will click on PARK DOMAIN at the top.

On the next screen in the first field (white box) you will type in: yournewdomain.com (WITHOUT the "www.") and press the button to park the domain. It will take a few moments so please be patient. When it is done it will come back with a message that it is being processed. After this it will take approximately 2 to 3 hours for it to propagate.

Don't forget: If you didn't register the new domain name through us, you will need to change the DNS (Domain Name Server) entries on the second domain name to point to our servers.
What name server entries you should use depends on the type of account you have.

If you have a Plusmail account where your control panel is located at an address like http://YOUR-DOMAIN-NAME.com/cgi-bin/plusmail then you should use these DNS entries:

Primary: NS.ALLWEBCO.NET
Secondary: NS2.ALLWEBCO.NET

If you have a cPanel account where you control panel is located at an address like this: http://YOUR-DOMAIN-HERE.com/cpanel then you should use these DNS entries:

Primary: CS.ALLWEBCO.NET

How do I download, install, and setup FileZilla (a free FTP program) to work with my hosting account?

Go to http://FileZilla-Project.org
Click the Download FileZilla Client button.
Click on the the appropriate file according to the operating system that you are running.
It is supposed to download automatically but if it doesn't click to download manually.
You should get a message that asks if you want to Run or Save this file - We recommend you click "Save".
Decide where to save it or you can just go with the default selection and save it there.
When the file completely downloads you can choose to Run.
Read/agree to the user agreement and follow the prompts to complete the installation (we recommend using the default settings)
FileZilla will run when installation is complete. You will see blanks to enter your hosting account information:
Host: your-domain.com
Username: your-domain
(Enter your username - on cPanel accounts, this is the first 8 digits of your domain name without the www or the .com - on Plusmail accounts, this is the first 26 characters of your domain name).
Password: (enter your password)
Port: (you do not have to enter anything in the blank for "Port").
Click Quick Connect
You are in! Your site will be in the right box and you can access your computer files in the left box.
To upload (move a file from your computer to your site) just click and drag it (click it once, and holding the button, move it from the left side of your screen to the right side and then release the mouse button).
To download (move a file from your site to your computer) just click and drag it from the right side of your screen to the left side.

How do I transfer my domain name to your registrar?

Please Read This First: If you are moving your site to our servers from another hosting company, you will need to change the DNS (Domain Name Server) entries for your domain name when your site is ready (see http://www.allwebco.com/help/search/kb/article/000014 for more info on that).

IMPORTANT: We recommend that you wait to transfer a domain name to our registrar until after you've changed the DNS entries, because the DNS entries can not be changed on a domain name that is in the transfer process, and while DNS changes can usually be done within 24 hours, transfers can take several days to complete.

You should first upload your site's current pages and files to the IP address you received from us when you ordered. You do not want to change your NameServer entries until you have finished this, because your domain name will point to a site with no pages, causing down-time for your site. (an IP address can be used like a domain name, so you'll upload your pages using that, and then when the NameServers are changed, your domain name will point to your new site with us.)

At the end of the propagation period (24 to 72 hours) you should verify that you've been switched over, and then contact your previous host to have them delete the old domain from their records and update their DNS record. If you use this same provider for your Internet access you will not be able to access your domain site until they update their DNS.

How do I upload my template?

There are many ways to upload a template:
If you're using FrontPage, there is a FrontPage tutorial that will help you get started here: http://supportmanual.com

If you're not using FrontPage, then that leaves you open to using any FTP (File Transfer Protocol) program you like or telnet (telnet is somewhat more complicated, compared to FTP)
You can NOT use FrontPage AND anything else. If you use FP, you must stick with it, or it will corrupt the FP extensions on your site and FP won't work any more (You can fix this by using your control panel to re-install FrontPage extensions)
If you decide to use FTP, we would recommend using CuteFTP, FileZilla, or WSFTP. Many if not all of those have free versions you can use. A google.com search for any of those should give you all the info you need to get started with them.

Whatever you use, you'll want to make sure that you're uploading to the www directory of your server.
While FTP programs will allow you to upload many files at once, and even change permissions of files and other advanced tasks such as those, you can decide to use only your control panel if you prefer. The disadvantages are that using Site Manager, you can only upload one file at a time, and items uploaded with the site manager must be under 64K in size.

How can I get rid of spam? (unsolicited bulk emails / UBE)

There are a few things you can do. One of which is to remove the default line in the forwardings section of your control panel.

This will make it so that all emails sent to any address that's not already specifically pointed to a pop account, or forwarded elsewhere by your control panel, will simply bounce.

This will prevent you from having to deal with spam sent to addresses you never use. (Spammers frequently send spam to commonly used email addresses such as sales/support/contact/info/etc... as well as common proper names)

This of course means you'd have to setup pop accounts and/or forwardings for whatever you do want to use, and that you'd lose the ability to use the catch all feature that will make sure you get any email that ends in your domain name, but it may be worth it to you.

You can setup the spam filter included with your account through your control panel (login and click on "Spam Filter" in the menu to your left) but even the best spam filters can never completely stop spam.

If you're serious about stopping the spam, you may want to look into a service such as SpamArrest as this type of service is currently the only way to rid yourself of spam completely. I am trying to upload files using the Site Manager section of the control panel but sometimes it won't let me. Why not?

The problem is that the site manager is not really meant to be an upload tool and only has limited functionality.

All items uploaded with the site manager must be under 64K in size.

We recommend you use an actual FTP client such as WS_FTP, CuteFTP, FileZilla, etc... to upload your files. A Google search for any of those should give you plenty of information on how to get started using any one of those.

FileZilla is free, and many other FTP programs have free versions as well.

How do I setup my email features?

E-Mail Forwarding And E-Mail Software Setup

E-Mail Forwarding allows you to redirect mail sent to your domain to another e-mail address. For example, perhaps you would like all mail sent to info@yourdomain.com to be sent to erichv@aol.com. You would add a redirect much like the picture below is set up.

Follow These Steps For E-Mail Forwarding

Go to your control panel at http://yourdomain.com/cgi-bin/plusmail
Do NOT delete the default e-mail that is setup in the first row of the form. (as shown above)
Add a new redirect in the second row. You can add any name you would like, and use that e-mail on your website, or business cards.
Add the single email, or email addresses you would like that mail to go to. (as shown above. Line 3 has 2 redirects)
Wait at least one hour and then test your new e-mail by sending an e-mail to the new "whatever@yourdomain.com" e-mail that you set up. It should come into the mail that you indicated in your control panel in the "Forward To" field.

Follow These Steps To Receive All E-mail From Your Domain

If you would like all the e-mail that comes into your website with your new or existing domain to come into software setup on your computer, please follow the instructions below.

Open the e-mail software that you plan to use for receiving e-mail that is on your computer. (Outlook, Outlook Express, Eudora...)
Set the software up to receive e-mail at "yourdomain@yourdomain.com" Substitute both instances with your domain name. For example use: funnyglass@funnyglass.com.
This is your global e-mail. Any mail that comes into "@yourdomain.com" will go to you. For example, bob@yourdomain.com or quotes@yourdomain.com will now all come into your software that is configured as "yourdomain@yourdomain.com"

More Detailed E-mail Information

How you setup your email is going to depend on what email program you are using.

You can setup your email program to check your email at your domain, or you can use your current email address of your-email@your-provider.com, and simply forward all email from your hosting account to that email address.

To just forward everything, go to your control panel here: http://yourdomain.com/cgi-bin/plusmail

login, then click on "email forwarding"

Then, under the default line (do not edit the default line) in the farthest empty box to the left, put: "yourdomain" (no "" marks) then in the next blank to the right of that blank, put: "your-email@your-provider.com" (again, no "" marks) then click the button at the bottom of the page that saves the changes. Then, any email sent to your domain name (anything@yourdomain.com) will go to your your-email@your-provider.com account.

Adding a Separate Mailbox

If you want to have a separate mailbox that has its own login and password:

Login to your control panel and click on "User Manager" from the menu on the left. Then, click on "Add User" at the top of that page. Then, in the "Username" blank, put the front of the email address. For example, if you want example@yourdomain.com for the email address, you'd put "example" in the "Username" blank. (again, no "" marks) After that, leave the "Type" set at "POP" and put in whatever password you want that email account to use in the "Password" blank. Leave the "Directory" blank empty, and click the "Setup" button. Wait fifteen minutes or so, and then the account should be setup.

Yes.

The hosting packages are the same as the ones posted for normal domains, the advantage to these is that registration is not needed. This means no registration fees.

You can also park third level domain names, just like other domain names.

How do I change the password or passwords for my website, email addresses, and control panel?

NOTE: To change the password for your "website", you actually need to change the passwords in TWO places.

The two places are the main email/FTP/SSH account of YOUR-DOMAIN and your control panel since it uses a separate login. (Instructions for both below)

To change the password for an email and/or FTP/SSH account:

Login to your control panel (http://YOUR-DOMAIN.com/cgi-bin/plusmail) click on "User Manager" from the menu on your left.
Then, select the email address/account name you want to change by clicking the circle next to the name. Enter the new password you want into both of the blanks at the bottom of the page, and click the "Change Password" button.

To change the password for your control panel:

Login to your control panel (http://YOUR-DOMAIN.com/cgi-bin/plusmail) and then click on "Password Manager" in the menu to your left. Then check the box next to YOUR-DOMAIN under the bold heading of "Plusmail User" and type/retype your new password into the blanks under it.

Alternatively, you can login via FTP and go to the home directory. Delete the file named "plusmail_passwd"

You can then go back to the Plusmail login page with your browser, and it will let you put in any login and password you like.

NOTE: be sure to do this as soon as possible, as your control panel will be wide open for anyone else to decide your password for you if they happen to try to go to your control panel before you're done.

How do I change the domain name on my current hosting account?

In regards to Chilisoft, please note that while Active Server Pages (ASP) can be used with our hosting, database applications such as MS Access and MS SQL will not function. By default, your account is setup to receive all emails sent to anything@yourdomain.com in the main pop email box of your account, which by default is yourdomain@yourdomain.com You do not have to edit anything to accomplish this. The difference between a pop account and an email alias (or email forwarding), is that a pop account has its own login and password. An alias simply forwards to somewhere else. As described above, any alias not specifically told to forward elsewhere is automatically forwarded to the main pop account of yourdomain@yourdomain.com

How do I check my site's statistics?

Website Statistics Help

All AllWebCo hosting packages, except for the "Value" package, include comprehensive statistics. These stats will tell you where visitors are coming from with the "Top Referring URLs" what browsers they are using, what search engines they are searching and what words they are using to search, plus more. These are some really great stats, however it does take a little setup on your end to get them working effectively. Click for a Sample

Steps To Setup Your Wusage Site Statistics
The "Value" package does not have this feature

Go to your control panel at http://yourdomain.com/cgi-bin/plusmail
Login and click on "Extras"
Install the "Referrer Logs" and the "Error Logs" do NOT install "Webalizer" or you will disable "wusage" and this setup will not work.
Click here to download the configuration files for your stats.
Edit the "wusage.conf" file in Notepad and replace "your-domain" in 6 places with your domain name, without the extension. If your domain ends in .com then you are done editing. If your domain ends with another extension then edit all cases of .com (4) with your extension.
You must now upload the 2 files into your hosting package. Use CuteFTP (See Help Search on the menu for more info) or some other FTP software. Upload them into the www/wusage directory. You will be replacing the current "wusage.conf" file.

Viewing Your Wusage Site Statistics
The "Value" package does not have this feature

Once you have completed the above steps, wait 24 to 48 hours and then you can view your stats. Go to:

Steps To Setup Webalizer
All packages including the "Value" package have this feature.
CAUTION: installing this will disable wusage.

Why am I getting this "Forbidden" error when I go to my site?

If your main page is showing a "forbidden" error, it is generally for one of 4 reasons:

The most likely problem is that you don't have a properly named default page in your main WWW directory. Acceptable file names are listed below:

index.htm
index.html
default.html
index.sht
index.shtml
index.cgi
index.php

etc...

Most likely if you upload an index page (or rename a page that's already there to one of the names above, it should solve your problem)

Another cause could be that the WWW directory permissions are improperly set. Logging into your domain with telnet and typing the following will fix this problem:
chmod 711 /www/your-user-id

Another cause could be that you put a .htaccess file in your main WWW directory, or you changed the configuration of an existing .htaccess file which is locking up your web site.

The fourth possible cause of that error could be that your account is disabled due to a billing issue. If this is the case, logging into your control panel here: http://your-domain.com/cgi-bin/plusmail will give you message "disabled - contact sales". If this is the case, please contact us here: http://www.allwebco.com/billing.shtml

You should contact support through the support desk if making/renaming an index page doesn't fix your problem and you are not sure what's causing the problem.

I have uploaded my site, but I'm still seeing the "under construction" page. Why?

The most common cause of this problem, is uploading to the wrong directory. You MUST upload either to your "www" directory, or to a subdirectory within the www directory, to have your files visible on the internet. If you are still seeing the "under construction" page we installed on your account when you access your site with your browser, then you haven't replaced the "index.htm" page in the www directory with the new main page of your site.

For this example, assume your domain name is fred.com

Location to publish to: fred.com (note: if the domain is not active, use the IP address we assigned)
FTP server name: fred.com
Directory path: /www/fred
Username: your-username
Passwd: ********
